Saturday after LiB

Summer kicked off with a whole lotta music.

All sorts of faves from LiB:

  • Sofi Tukker: Did you all watch White Lotus? Cause we did.
  • Meute: Odesza-like brass band. I’d first heard their cover of You & Me back in 2018 when it went viral, and couldn’t believe that an 11 piece brass band was able to nail the bass synths. Most of their live music was more rhythmic, less melodic. I think they wrote it?
  • Daily Bread: CEO’s find, Pretty Lights-esque twang.
  • William Close & the Earth Harp Collective: hundreds of yards of taut wires made harp, and the music made us cry.
  • Beats Antique: their show has come so ridiculously far, it was a true spectacle.
  • ZHU
  • 070 Shake: tripped out on The Pines, which riffed on Where Did You Sleep Last Night, a folk song Nirvana covered on unplugged.
  • Purple Disco Machine: Woogie had a bumping funktion-one setup. Groovy.
  • Ben Boehmer: I’ll admit I wish Boehmer would’ve performed his Cappadocia Cercle set, but I still dug his DJ set.

CEO and I also went to see Jamie XX and LCD Soundsystem at Stanford’s Frost Amphitheater. LCD Soundsystem was a full band and majestic and post-modern.

Sunday before LiB

Spent a chunk of today packing for LiB – trailer is ready and I’m taking off on Wednesday.

Beyond that, the weekend felt aimless. I went through the motions of both being on top of my commitments (lifting weights, packing, work prep, seeing family) and putting in time to the things I enjoyed (sim racing, reading, CEO) but feel dissatisfied and perhaps a bit frustrated. That being said, just writing it out, giving it a label of ennui puts it in a box outside of me.

Friday, and Microsoft is my Copilot

I let the Tetris movie unwind in the background. Banging soundtrack.

Tomorrow I have to smog the F-150. Fingers crossed, otherwise I’ll need a replacement sooner than expected. Morgan Hill smog first, and will fall back from there.

Getting a Copilot

I set up Microsoft’s Copilot using an unofficial Emacs extension. Out-of-the-box the completion is super impressive if not always what I intended. I’d put odds on this being ChatGPT-3.5 turbo or one of the other GPT-3 forks given how it can go down the wrong path.

Thoorsday

I’ll admit I watched Quantamania, and, what’s more, I liked it’s bizarro concave world. Saving the second half for tomorrow.

Two mornings in a row of working out, biceps and tri’s today. Skipping lifting last week shows: I’m pretty much where I was the week before, so two weeks lost. I can bench again as the bruised rib is nearly mended.

Put in a 50% F1 race of Montreal – got 6th with the Williams after falling back from pole. I’d like to blame the car, but really I struggled to get the hard tires rotated on the hard tires. Next time I’d like to lower the on-throttle diff. I kept it super tight up round 80% because I didn’t want to slip out on acceleration.

Just Wednesday LLM Links

Sadly F1 Imola was canceled today. I mean, the city is getting flooded which is the true tragedy. Rained buckets over two days, and likely more to come this weekend. SuperMax was lapping around the track in iRacing, the mad lad.

Did a 25% race of Montreal with EBJ – must’ve been up in the top few races of my life. I managed to snag pole, fastest lap, and podium for the first time. Even had some good laps with EBJ when other days we struggle to keep up with each other.
